Initial results of conserving the native chicken of the H’Mong minority ethnics in Thai Nguyen province

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to collect and conserve in situ chickens of the Mong compatriots in Dong Hy district, Vo Nhai district - Thai Nguyen province. By observing and monitoring the reproductive parameters, the appearance characteristics of 290 adult chickens (19-20 weeks old) in the first generation were identified: balanced body shape, jet black feathers accounted for 76, 00% - 77.50%, 100% beak and leg skin black, skin pale black; 100% serrated crest, mostly black (84.00 - 85.81%). Age of laying the first egg at 149 - 154 days; calving age reaches 5% at 155 - 157 days; calving peak at 225 - 228 days; the peak laying rate reached 35.14% - 36.29%; egg yield/hen/72 weeks of age reached 75.01 - 76.51 eggs; food consumption/10 eggs: 5.39 - 5.51 kg. Egg weight at 33 weeks old reached 46.89 g, morphological index was 1.32, Haugh unit was 86.26. The percentage of eggs with embryos reached 80.23%; hatching/egg with embryos reached 86.26%; the rate of type 1 chicken/egg with embryo reached 75.26%. Monitoring the appearance and growth ability of Mong chickens in the next generation at the following time points: 01 day old, 08 weeks old and 20 weeks old, selected 280 chickens (250 cocks and 30 hens) with Appearance and volume characteristics are included in 04 in-situ conservation models and 01 displacement conservation model.
