Effect of dilution medium on the quality of frozen goat semen

Abstract
The study was conducted to evaluate the effects of semen extenders on the quality of frozen goat semen straw, an experiment was conducted on 120 semen samples collected from 10 goats (5 Boer and 5 Saanen), aged 14 - 19 months. Semen was collected using an artificial vagina in the early morning. The ejaculates were diluted with three different extenders (TNK, TRIS, and VNE). The results showed that the VNE extender provided the best post-thaw semen quality among the three extenders tested (P<0.05). Post-thaw quality parameters of frozen goat semen in straws with VNE, TRIS, and TNK extenders were as follows: sperm motility 50.18%, 44.71%, and 40.76%, while the proportion of abnormal spermatozoa was 17.60%; 18.86% and 19.23%.
