Abstract

The objective of this study was to evaluate the production capacity of Sasso, Tetra-T, Tetra-H, Novogen and Lac Son chickens under household farming conditions in Tuyen Hoa, Quang Binh. Each new chicken breed was raised in 05 households and each household raised Lac Son chickens for comparison. The results on growth ability up to 20 weeks of age: survival rate was reached from 92.89 - 96.78%; Body weight and feed intake of the breeds were 1675.01 - 2008.30 g and 94.00 g/chicken/day in Sasso; 1809.40 - 2216.30 g in Tetra-H; 1262.38 - 1532.19 g and 85.00 g/chicken/day in Tetra-T: 1149.24 – 1355.90 g and 80.00 g/head/day in Novogen and 1354.62 – 1625.58 g and 90.00 g/head/day Lac Son chickens. Laying rate, egg productivity at 70 weeks of age and feed consumption/10 eggs of Sasso chickens reached 63.95%, 214.88 eggs/hen and 2.15 kg; Tetra-H chickens reached 58.98%, 198.16 eggs/hen and 4.42 kg; Tetra-T chickens reached 64.41%, 226.48 eggs/hen and 4.61 kg; Novogen chickens reached 71.99%, 241.90 eggs/hen and 1.58 kg; Lac Son chicken reached 34.09%, 114.54 eggs/hen and 2.26 kg. The research results suggest that Sasso and Novogen chicken breeds were the most advantageous breeds to continue implementing support programs for small-scale household-based poultry production in the locality.
