Growth performance of F1 Crossbred Goat (50% Boer × 50% Bach Thao) at Ruminant Research and Development Center in Ho Chi Minh city

Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate growth performance of F1 crossbred Boer × Bach Thao at Ruminant Research and Development Center. from June 2022 to October 2023. The study was conducted on 165 goats from birth to 12 months of age. The results showed that: Appearance F1 ( Boer × Bach Thao) had mainly white body with brown head according to the color of Boer (61.82%); 8.48% crossbred goats had white body with black head; 10.90% crossbred goats had coat color similar to Bach Thao; 18.80% crossbred goats had other color. The average body weight of the crossbred goats were 2.77 kg; 15.87 kg; 26.93 kg; 36.92 kg and 42.16 kg respectively at birth, 3, 6, 9 and 12 of month. The survival rate of crossbred goats reached 95.1% at the age of 0-3 months; 97.4% for 3-6 month period and 92.7% for 0-6 month period. The ratio of common disease was highest in the period 0-3 month of age. The common disease on F1 ( Boer × Bach Thao) were pneumonia and diarrhea. The F1 crossbred goat (50% Boer × 50% Bach Thao) had the ability to grow and develop well in the climatic condition of Ho Chi Minh city and Vietnam.
