Biological and growth characteristics of Mnu Buon chickens raised in Dak Lak province

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate several biological and growth characteristics of the Mnu Buon chicken, a native breed raised in Dak Lak province. The evaluation criteria include: i) breed origin, ii) morphological characteristics, iii) some physiological indicators, iv) growth of the Mnu Buon chicken. The evaluation surveys were conducted in 75 farming households across 3 communes in Dak Lak province. The results showed that the Mnu Buon chicken breed has been maintained by farming households for many generations (66.9%), and the breed was exchanged within the village (22.7%). The Mnụ Buôn chicken breed is small in size and can be distinguished by its physical characteristics such as feather color, comb type, leg scales, and head feather crest. Mnu Buon chickens adapt well to the farming conditions in Dak Lak province, with a high survival rate of 92.2% at 20 weeks of age. At 20 weeks, the weight of males and females obtanes 1,394.7 g and 1,307.6 g respectively. Mnu Buon chickens have a feed intake of 46.3 g for males and 44.3 g for females from 1-20 weeks of age.
