Effects of human follicle-stimulating hormone (hFSH LNN) on testicular development and reproductive performance in male mice

Abstract

This study evaluated the effects of human follicle-stimulating hormone (hFSH LNN) on testicular development and fertility in male mice treated in the early post-weaning period. Male mice were given the hormone starting at 21 days of age and mated with female mice at 49 days of age. Parameters assessed included testicular mass, vas deferens mass, mating success rate, and fertility indices on days 1, 4, and 21 postnatal. Results showed that the addition of 5 µg/ml of dissolved hFSH LNN significantly increased testicular mass and vas deferens mass compared to the control group (p < 0.05). The mating success rate in the hFSH LNN group was 40%, higher than in the control group (20%). Despite having more offspring per litter, the hFSH LNN experimental group showed a slight decrease in survival rate, likely due to competition for milk and maternal care. Early post-weaning supplementation with hFSH LNN, particularly at a dose of 5 µg per animal, enhanced the development of male reproductive organs and demonstrated a tendency to improve the reproductive performance of adult male mice.
