Appearance characteristics, growth performance and disease resistancy of F2 Crossbred Goat (75% Boer and 25% Bach Thao) in Ben Cat Livestock Research Station – Ben Cat District, Ho Chi Minh City
The aim of this study was to evaluate appearance characteristics growth performance and disease resistancy of F2 crossbred Boer x Bach Thao in Ben Cat Livestock Research Station - Institute of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine for Southern Vietnam from August 2023 to Jun 2025. The study was conducted on 171 goats from birth to 12 months of age. The results showed that: Appearance F2 (75% Boer and 25% Bach Thao) had mainly white body with brown head according to the color of Boer (82.46%); 5.85% crossbred goats had white body with black head; 2.92% crossbred goats had coat color similar to Bach Thao; 8.77% crossbred goats had white body. The average body weight of the crossbred goats were 3.17 kg; 17.11 kg; 28.31 kg; 38.67 kg and 44.86 kg respectively at birth, 3, 6, 9 and 12 of month. The survival rate of crossbred goats reached 95.1% at the age of 0 - 3 months; 96.9% for 3 - 6 month period and 92.4% for 0 - 6 month period. The ratio of common disease was highest in the period 0 - 3 month of age. The common disease on F2 (75% Boer and 25% Bach Thao) were pneumonia and diarrhea. The F2 crossbred goat (75% Boer and 25% Bach Thao) had the ability to grow and develop well at Ben Cat Animal Research Station and Ho Chi Minh city.
